Meet the cast: Kiss Me, Kate!


Kiss Me, Kate opens this Thursday!

Meet some of the cast and learn how the performing arts have touched their lives....


Alexandra Guzman, 18, of Lutz

Character: Lois/Bianca

What is exciting to you about the show? 
The play within a play. Super Excited!

Other classes taken at the conservatory
Musical theater

Why did you decide to study the performing arts?
It is an obsession, I love the theater.

How has studying the performing arts been beneficial to you?
I have learned so much!

What do you think is interesting about yourself?
I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do

I truly can say that theater has helped me and how I have dealt with life.

What is exciting to you about the show?
The style, because I haven’t done something like it before.

Why did you decide to study the performing arts?
I enjoy it more than anything else

How has studying the performing arts been beneficial to you?
It’s found me a life career and opened up so many opportunities and experiences.

What do you think is interesting about yourself?
My dedication and drive towards things I’m passionate about.

Sabrina Smith, 16, of New Tampa

Ensemble

What is exciting to you about the show?
That it is set in the 1940’s and I have never done a production set in that time period.

Why did you decide to study the performing arts?
I find it exciting and I want it to be my career.

How has studying the performing arts been beneficial to you?
It has expanded my horizons and shown me new talents.

What do you think is interesting about yourself?
I take AP classes, I am a junior class president...and I figure skate.

Carol Cohen, 49, of Temple Terrace
Ensemble

What is exciting to you about the show? 
The opportunity to learn from the excellent Patel staff and high school/college students involved in the show. I haven’t been in a musical since high school. It’s such a hoot!

Tap student for more than 5 years, jazz, modern, on-camera acting and more.

How long have you been a part of the Patel Conservatory?
Forever! Volunteered from 2004 to 2005, staff from 2005 - 2011, continued taking classes ever since

Why did you decide to study the performing arts?
At first, it was to take advantage of my staff discount and to lose weight, but it has blossomed into a major part of my life, to challenge myself physically and mentally.

How has studying the performing arts been beneficial to you?
My wonderful friends that I never would have met if it wasn’t for classes at the Conservatory.

What do you think is interesting about yourself?
I danced the role of Mother Matroyshka (Russian stacking doll) for three years in The Nutcracker at the Straz Center. My ankles are my fame! I will do almost anything to get on stage!

Other comments
I am trying desperately to win a walk-on role as a “walker” in the Walking Dead.
